Chateau Branon

Chateau Branon is a small but well-regarded wine estate based in the Léognan suburb just south of Bordeaux city, and falling under the eponymous Pessac-Leognan appellation title.

The Branon estate covers six hectares although only a small portion of this (just under two hectares, or five acres) is planted to vines. These are spread between Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

Nearby estates include Malartic-Lagraviere to the southwest, Chateau Haut-Lagrange to the east and the Larrivet Haut-Brion, Haut-Bailly and La Louviere estates to the northeast. The château building itself is almost completely derelict with only the stone walls of the (impressive) structure left standing.

Branon is owned by the Garcin family which runs it with the viticulture and winemaking teams from their Haut-Bergey property. The vineyards are organically and biodynamically certified and the wines are made by the Chateau Haut-Bergey team. Production is unsurprisingly small, with an annual output of around 4000 bottles. Wines are fermented in temperature-regulated stainless steel tanks and aged in new French oak.
