Chateau d'Issan

The history of Château d’Issan is a familial history, a know-how passed down from generation to genration. The first reference of Issan brings back to XIIth century, during the occupation of Guyenne by the British. At that time, the estate was named La Mothe-Cantenac and then was renamed Le Manoir Théobon. For the next centuries, Château d’Issan was passed down from generation to generation by marriage and legacy.

In 1575, the estate is bought by d’Essenault family and is managed by 5 generations of this fimily before its purchase by the Cruse Family in 1990. The cru is ranked Third Grand Cru Classé of the 1855 ranking. Finally, in 2012, Françoise and Jacky Lorenzetti, also owners of Châteaux Lilian Ladouys and Pédesclaux, joined the Cruse Family and invest in the estate.

The terroir of Château d’Issan is located in the right bank at the beginning of the township of Cantenac near Margaux, Léoville Las Cases, Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande or even Palmer. The vineyard is divided into several plots and each ageing is done depending on this distribution. Since the beginning of the 1990’s, the production materials have been renovated. The aim is to have the best management the soil possible as well as the vinification techniques. The grape variety proportion is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot.
