The History of Château Quinault l’Enclos, a property situated in the heart of Libourne next to the Dordogne river, is marked by its acquisition in 2008 by Baron Albert Frere and Bernard Arnault. Together, they aimed to revitalize the vineyard and thus began the challenging project. Under the impetus of Pierre Lurton’s know-how, the goal is to imitate the viticulture, winemaking, and aging process of Château Cheval Blanc. If we listen to the many fans of Château Quinault l’Enclos, they seem to be succeeding.
The Terroir of Château Quinault l’Enclos is spread over 20 hectares of sand and pebbles mixed with a little clay. The vine plants, on average 45 years old, are 71.5% Merlot, 14.5% Cabernet Franc, and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, typical of the varieties in the region. Concern for the environment has led the property to undertake a biological conversion in all the fields, working towards a more natural model. The aging of the wine is done in barrels with a capacity of 500L (50% of which are replaced each year). The average age of the vines is high (60-70 years) and the wine is now a blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Quinault l'Enclos is matured in 100% new oak barrels for 18 months and is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
