Domaine Robert Sirugue is a Burgundy wine estate, based in Vosne-Romanée, with more than a century of history. Its primary focus is on Pinot Noir, mostly at the village level, although it has some small plots in grand and premier cru vineyards. Sirugue also makes a single white wine from Aligoté and a Passe-tout-grains. While the majority of Sirugue's wines are sold under its own label, it continues to sell a small portion of each vintage to négociants.
The vineyard holdings total roughly 12 hectares (30 acres), mostly within Vosne-Romanée. About a third of the vineyards are in different Vosne-Romanée villages lieux-dits, which are blended together to make a single cuvée. Sirugue's most highly regarded plots are tiny – one is in the grand cru Grands-Échezeaux vineyard, and the other in the premier cru Les Petits Monts vineyard.
The fruit is hand-harvested and fully destemmed before a cold maceration and fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels, and then the wines are aged for 15 to 18 months, depending on the vintage, in a combination of new and used oak. All of Sirugue's wines are bottled without fining or filtering.
The family-owned domaine was founded in the late 19th Century, and is currently run by the fifth generation. It is part of the Domaines & Vins de Propriété Bourgogne, a cooperative of Burgundy producers that helps distribute and promote its members' wines, and it currently represents more than 150 estates.
