Maison M. Chapoutier

Family owned since 1808, Chapoutier is now managed by 7th-generation winemaker, Michel Chapoutier. Since he took over this historic estate in 1989, quality has soared. The alternative approach is championed with great skill by M. Chapoutier. Their vineyard plots are harvested, vinified and bottled separately under a range they call Sélection Parcellaire. This helps the wine enthusiast in two ways – first because it lets each vineyard really shine – we can enjoy that plot as a wine in itself, and perhaps find our own favourites, and also because by singling out its components in this way, we get to understand Hermitage as a whole that much better.

Today, they are the largest vineyard owner on the prestigious hill of Hermitage, and consistently make outstanding and classic reds and whites, either organically or biodynamically.

Chapoutier is clearly a great believer in terroir. The Chapoutier Sélections Parcellaires are some of the most celebrated and rare wines in the world. In 2019, the estate was ranked 5th in the “World’s Most Admired Wine Brands” out of more than a 100,000 wineries, published by the British magazine “Drinks International”. Since its first edition in 2011, Chapoutier has been ranked the number one French brand, 5 times in 9 years.
